Tummy Tuck - Get Rid of Mummy Tummy

While the birth of the baby is eagerly awaited by the mother, a stretched and flabby abdomen with loose skin is definitely on her not welcome list. A few years ago, women had little option but to live with their wrinkled mummy tummy. But now, the pregnancy-stretched abdomen can be toned, tightened and brought back to almost the pre-pregnancy state with the help of a well known and easily accessible cosmetic surgery procedure called Abdominoplasty.

Popularly known as ‘Tummy Tuck,’ the surgery is very useful to tighten skin around the abdomen that has been stretched due to pregnancy and has become loose after delivery. The surgery is not limited just to mommies who have had their babies recently. Both men and women can benefit from this procedure. Older people who have lost the elasticity of skin around their midriff, people who have lost considerable weight recently and are left with unattractive loose tissue or anyone who desires a tight, flat abdomen can consider this relatively safe procedure called Abdominoplasty.

What does the Procedure Involve?

The surgery involves removal of excess skin and fat from the midriff area which does not budge by exercise and diet alone. The extent of the procedure varies according to the individual requirements of the patient.

There are three types of abdominoplasty procedures

Traditional Tummy Tuck
Mini Tummy Tuck
Extended Abdominoplasty

The first procedure is the most commonly performed one. Most new mommies are ideal candidates for this one. In this procedure, the walls of the abdomen are exposed to tighten the abdominal muscles. Then the skin is pulled down tight and surplus tissue is removed. Since the skin is pulled down tightly, the belly button is also surgically moved to the right position. The procedure takes about two to three hours to complete and the patient will be under general anaesthesia. You may need to stay in the hospital for about two days following this procedure.

The Mini Tummy Tuck is far less invasive than the first one. This procedure is ideal for patients who need only a small amount of excess skin to be removed. A smaller incision is made and only a smaller area of the abdominal wall is exposed. The navel is also not moved in this procedure. Mini Tummy Tuck is ideal for people who develop loose skin around midriff due to aging or those who already have relatively flat abs but are looking to get rid of some of the fat that does not respond to diet and exercise.

Extended abdominoplasty is invasive and is usually performed on patients who have excess fat and skin on their abdomen, upper hips, flanks and lower back. Sides, hips and abdomen are treated simultaneously and this procedure is more involved than a traditional tummy tuck. Most patients need to rest and take pain medication for about two weeks after the procedure.

Benefits

All three types of abdominoplasty will cause the waist to appear slimmer, firmer and trimmer. Firmer, flatter, toned and a more youthful abdomen will boost your self esteem and confidence. Stretch marks that are caused by pregnancy also disappear as excess skin is removed in the procedure.
