It is estimated that over 100,000 patients travel from England other destinations abroad for cosmetic, dental and other elective surgery. The trend is only predicted to increase over the coming years. One of the major worries of a patient traveling abroad for medical treatment is the fact that standard travel insurance does not provide any coverage for unforeseen circumstances that could arise during the travel.
Almost 30% of people say that complications that may arise as a result of the elective surgery and other treatment that they choose to undergo abroad is a major concern for them. PJ Hayman, a leading UK specialist travel insurance provider, is now launching a policy that covers medical costs that may arise from complications while receiving treatment abroad. The policy is called “Free Spirit Travel for Treatment Insurance,” and it provides an additional layer of security and peace of mind for medical tourists who opt to travel abroad for treatment.
The policy provides coverage for
Cosmetic surgery (150 are specified), dentistry and other elective treatment.
Up to £5 million specific cover for complications occurring after 48 hours and up to 31 days while the patient is abroad.
Cancellation cover of £1,000.
There is also an option to increase it to £5,000.
Up to £5 million for emergency medical expenses.
£2,000 coverage for baggage.
Up to £2 million personal liability cover.
Repatriation cover
The cover is available for all UK nationals who are resident in the European Economic Area and who are up to the age of 74. They should also be registered with a medical practitioner in the EEA.
With many reputed and world class healthcare facilities operating all over the world to provide medical treatment at a fraction of the comparable cost in UK, it is only natural that medical travel will be considered as a viable option by most patients.
